The CITB Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is designed for anyone taking on, or preparing for, a supervisory role within the construction industry. Over two days, you'll build the knowledge and confidence to manage health & safety on site, understand your legal responsibilities and support a safe working environment for your team.

Delivered by experienced trainers, this CITB-approved course is recognised across the construction industry and provides the skills needed to supervise work safely, communicate effectively and meet current health & safety standards.

Course Overview

Our Bricklaying Apprenticeship at Greenlight is a great starting point for anyone wanting to build a career in the construction industry. An apprenticeship can provide hands-on experience on active building sites, learning how to carry out brick and block work to a professional standard while supporting the delivery of real projects across housing, commercial, and infrastructure environments.

You’ll develop practical skills in setting out, mixing mortar, interpreting drawings, and laying bricks and blocks accurately and efficiently. Alongside this, you’ll learn how to work safely on site, maintain high standards of quality, and adapt to different working conditions and tasks as they arise.

As you progress, you’ll build confidence working within a site team, communicating with supervisors and other trades, and taking responsibility for your own work. This apprenticeship is designed to give you a solid platform for progression, whether that’s developing into a qualified bricklayer or moving into more advanced construction roles.

  • Qualifications Gained

    On successful completion, delegates will receive the CITB Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Certificate, valid for five years.

  • Suitable For

    Ideal for site supervisors, team leaders, forepersons and anyone preparing to take on supervisory responsibilities within the construction industry.

  • Course Duration

    The course is delivered over two consecutive days and combines tutor-led learning, group discussions and practical examples from real construction sites.

  • Progression Opportunities

    Successful delegates can progress onto the CITB Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme Refresher (SSSTS-R) before their certificate expires, or continue their development with the CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) when moving into a site management role.

  • Entry Requirements

    Delegates should have a good understanding of spoken and written English, as the course includes group discussions, case studies and a multiple-choice assessment. Some experience of working within the construction industry is recommended.

Overview

This course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all supervisors working on Build UK sites and provides an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues. It highlights legal responsibilities and the need to promote health and safety to supervise effectively.

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

  • This course is 2-days in duration.

  • This course has no pre-requisites. Please bring a form of photo identification on the day of your training course. Please also inform the Greenlight team of any allergies/preferences, as lunch will be provided.

  • £140 per person can be claimed back via the CITB ATO. This can also be included in a Training & Skills Fund.
