Supported Internships at Greenlight

Our Supported Internship programme helps young people aged 16–24 develop the skills, confidence & experience they need to move towards employment. With practical workplace experience, tailored support & a focus on individual goals, we help learners take their next step into the world of work.

Our Plymouth centre can support young people with an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), providing tailored support throughout their Supported Internship. Please note that we are currently unable to support learners with an EHCP at our Bristol centre.

Supported Internship Overview

Our Supported Internship programme helps young people aged 16–24 with SEND & an EHCP (in Plymouth) develop the skills, confidence & experience needed to move towards employment. The programme combines time at Greenlight with real workplace experience, supported by our Job Coaches & SEN team.

Learners will develop their employability, communication & practical workplace skills, while gaining experience through placements with local employers. We have a particular focus on construction placements, but can also support placements across a variety of industries & workplace settings to suit each learner’s interests, strengths & career goals.

Throughout the programme, learners receive tailored support to help them progress towards paid employment, further training or an apprenticeship.

  • Qualifications Gained

    Learners can work towards Functional Skills & relevant industry training or qualifications, depending on their individual pathway.

  • Suitable For

    Young people aged 16–24 with SEND & an EHCP (if in Plymouth) who are preparing for employment and would benefit from supported workplace experience.

  • Start Dates

    Start dates throughout September, ask the team to confirm the dates for our next intake.

  • Locations

    This apprenticeship is delivered from our training centres in Plymouth and Bristol, alongside practical learning in the workplace.

  • Delivery Method

    A combination of centre-based learning, practical training & supported workplace experience with an employer.

  • Internship Duration

    Supported Internships typically last up to 12 months, with progress tailored to each learner’s individual needs & goals.

  • Progression Opportunities

    The programme is designed to help learners progress into paid employment, an apprenticeship, further training or education.

  • Entry Requirements

    Applicants must be employed, or have secured employment, in a bricklaying role before starting the apprenticeship. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to working safely are essential.
