Apprentice Employer Expectations & Responsibilities
Being an apprentice employer is straightforward, and you won't be expected to do it alone. Alongside providing your apprentice with valuable workplace experience, there are a few key responsibilities that help ensure they get the most from their apprenticeship. We'll be with you every step of the way to provide guidance and support.
-
As the employer, you'll be responsible for paying your apprentice's wages, along with any other employment benefits they're entitled to, such as holiday pay and pension contributions.
-
Your apprentice should have the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for their apprenticeship through relevant, day-to-day work.
-
Apprentices must spend at least 20% of their contracted hours completing off-the-job learning. This takes place during normal working hours and is designed to support their development.
-
You'll meet regularly with your Greenlight and your apprentice to review progress, celebrate achievements and identify any additional support needed.
-
Provide a safe, supportive workplace where your apprentice can learn, develop and gain confidence while following relevant health and safety procedures.
-
Your apprentice will occasionally need time to attend training sessions, complete assessments or prepare for their End-Point Assessment.
