Roofing
Level 2 Apprenticeship

Our Roofing Apprenticeship at Greenlight gives you the skills and experience needed to build a career in the roofing industry. You’ll learn how to install, maintain and repair roofing systems, working with a range of materials across domestic, commercial and new-build projects.

You’ll develop practical skills in measuring, setting out, preparing and installing roofing materials, alongside learning how to interpret drawings, calculate material requirements and work safely at height. The apprenticeship offers different pathways, allowing your training to reflect the type of roofing work you carry out in the workplace.

Apprenticeship Overview

Roofers play an important role in protecting buildings from the elements, installing and maintaining the materials and systems that keep roofs watertight and structurally sound. The work can range from repairing individual tiles or slates on domestic properties to installing complete roofing systems on large commercial buildings.

During your apprenticeship, you’ll develop the core skills needed to work safely, efficiently and to a professional standard. This includes measuring and calculating materials, interpreting drawings and specifications, selecting appropriate products, using hand and power tools and installing roofing components correctly. You’ll also learn about insulation, ventilation, condensation, common roof defects and roof repair and maintenance.

The apprenticeship includes three options: Roof Slater & Tiler, Waterproof Membranes Installer and Roof Sheeter & Cladder. Your chosen option will reflect the type of roofing work you undertake as part of your employment.
