You might already be working in education or industry, looking to gain formal recognition of your teaching role, or you may be new to the profession and ready to build a meaningful career.

This rewarding career can be found across the entire Futher Education and Skills (FES) sector, supporting learners aged 16 and above and occasionally younger students (14+) in alternative provision or specialist settings.

Learning and Skills Teachers work in a wide range of environments, including:

  • FE and sixth form colleges

  • Independent Training Providers (ITPs)

  • Adult Community Learning (ACL) providers

  • Offender learning institutions

Teaching may include academic, vocational, technical, and essential skills. Subject matter spans a broad range of disciplines from engineering and construction to digital skills and business.

Many professionals in this role are dual professionals, drawing on industry expertise and teaching skills to create engaging, relevant, and high-quality learning experiences.

Key Information

  • 18 months to EPA

  • Workshop training sessions and work-based visits

  • On Programme – Learners will build a portfolio showcasing knowledge, skills and behaviours.

    End Point Assessment –

    1.      Observation with questioning.

    2.      Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.

  • You can progress onto senior teaching roles.
