Celebrating Rhys & Macauley at the Plymouth Youth Awards

Not one but TWO nominations for Apprentice of the Year at the Plymouth Youth Awards. Huge congratulations to both Rhys & Macauley.

Rhys ended up winning the award, a fantastic achievement that acknowledges his outstanding efforts.

We’re always proud to see our apprentices succeed, but it’s particularly special when their hard work is recognised outside of Greenlight too.

This year, two of our apprentices, Rhys & Macauley, were finalists in the Young Apprentice Award at the 2026 Plymouth Youth Awards, hosted by YMCA Plymouth.

The awards celebrate the achievements of young people across Plymouth, recognising their contributions, progress, skills & the challenges they’ve overcome. The Young Apprentice Award shines a particular light on young people who are making a positive start to their careers through an apprenticeship.

A fantastic achievement for Rhys

For Rhys, reaching the final was a huge achievement.

Last year, Rhys sadly lost his dad, Lee Pawley, who was also a Greenlight tutor. Despite such a difficult time, he continued with his apprenticeship and showed real commitment to completing his training.

We were absolutely delighted when Rhys was announced as the winner of the Young Apprentice Award. 🏆

It’s a well-deserved recognition of the effort he has put into his apprenticeship & the determination he has shown along the way.

Well done, Macauley

We’re also incredibly proud of Macauley, who completed his Carpentry Apprenticeship and was shortlisted alongside Rhys for the award.

Macauley has worked hard throughout his apprenticeship, overcoming challenges & continuing to develop his skills and confidence with the support of our tutors and pastoral team.

Being named a finalist is a fantastic achievement, and we’re really pleased to see his hard work recognised.

For us, apprenticeships are about more than qualifying. They’re about giving people the opportunity to learn a trade, build confidence & take their next step.

Our tutors and pastoral team work closely with every apprentice, providing the support they need throughout their training.
